OMBRE.... Summer time girls are the kind I like.

Recently I had a client who complained to me that a friend of hers went to the salon to get the Ombre look. When she left the salon she had a dinstinct line of demarcation. I am here to tell you that there IS GOOD ombre and BAD obre. The hair trend known as “Ombre” is a fashion that is spreading rapidly in the beauty industry. It is a fun, spunky, low- maintenance hair design that looks good on anyone! It is the perfect look for the summer bacuse it actually mimics the natural process your hair goes through from being in the sun. Though it is the perfect look for practically anyone, it is not always done properly. The Ombre look takes a skilled professional who has taken continuing education and learned the art of American Balayge. You can not walk into any salon and get the “perfect ombre” because it is a technical hair design few stylist have the knowledge to do. In order to creat a nice flowing Ombre, the stylist has to know the technical way to create the look. Slapping some bleach on your ends is not how you create this! There is a right and wrong way to do this color. Beware of what you are getting done to your hair next time you just walk into a salon.  



GOOD OMBRE has no distinct line of demarcation. The color should fade gradually from dark to light tones. The lighter color should start atleast 6 inches from the scalp. If these chaartacteristics are not present you do not have ombre, you have roots!

 BAD OMBRE will have a distinct line of demarcation. The lighter color will start less that 6 inches from your scalp. The color will not flow, and it will look like you literally have roots or that your stylist slapped some lighter on your ends.

Rip Vidal Sassoon, the creater of the wash and wear concept.

Remembering  a Legend

"My idea was to cut shape into the hair, to use it like fabric and take away everything that was superfluous," Sassoon told the Los Angeles Times in 1993. "Women were going back to work, they were assuming their own power. They didn't have time to sit under the dryer anymore."



Vidal Sassoon, a legend in the beauty indusrty,  died today. He was a pioneer in the industry, and was the creator of the wash and wear concept. His legend evolved from his idea that a hairstylist should be able to cut the style into the hair, this eliminated weekly visits to the salon for styling.  This concept  transformed the beauty industry. We honor his legacy.

You wont need to look far, it's right where it been all along... underneath all of those layers of colored hair. That's right ladies, natural color is back in style. Note to stylists...
For achieving this look I section the hair into four sections. two in the back and one on each side with the part they use when they style their hair. Using two inch slices i weave tiny pieces and foil in lightener (i use matrix v-light) when i get to the top sections i do the same process but i don't foil the top slices where the part is. I apply the desired color on the rest. This application allows the hair to have a more natural outcome.

1. Part your hair down the center. Beginning on the right side of your part at your forehead, twist a one-inch section of hair away from your face.
2. Use a comb to separate a 1/2-inch section right below the first section along your face and twist that piece away from your face, combining it with the first piece.
3. Continue adding 1/2-inch pieces along your hairline down to your neck. Use a clip or a bobby pin to hold the hair in place at the nape of your neck.
4. Repeat the twisting on the left side, starting at your forehead.
5. When you reach the nape of your neck, unclip the right side and hold both the left and right sides in two separate sections.
6. Pull a 1/2-inch section of hair from the right section and add it to the left section. Repeat with a piece from the left section, adding it to the right section.
7. Continue adding 1/2-inch pieces down to the ends and secure with an elastic.
